《理想郷》と聞くと、どんな景色をイメージするだろうか。

三好市にあるシモノロパーマネントは「大自然の中で心も体も解毒する」をコンセプトに、廃校をリノベーションして造られた、子供から大人まで様々な形で大自然と触れ合えるアイデア満載の複合施設だ。

深い山々に囲まれる敷地内に足を一歩踏み入れると、古い校舎の表情を残しつつ、オーナーである植本さんのセンスが散りばめられたこの場の雰囲気に一気に引き込まれ、何とも言えない懐かしさとワクワク感が込みあげてくる。

『大人も子供もみんな、ここで解放していいよ。』この場所自体が、そう言ってくれているような気持ちになる。

What do you imagine when you hear the word “Utopia”?

Certainly you must envision a sense of natural harmony, and Shimonoro Permanent in Miyoshi City offers exactly that. Created by renovating a closed school with the concept of “detoxifying the mind and body in nature”, this idyllic place is somewhere both children and adults can come into contact with the landscape in various ways.

Upon stepping into the site, which is surrounded by deep mountains, you are immediately drawn into the charming atmosphere. By utilizing the playfulness and nostalgia of this former school building, owner Ms. Uemoto’s sense of design is encountered all around.

For sure, this place seems to announce, “Everyone, whether young or old, can be released here.”

まさに理想郷、ユートピアのようなこの場所に、昨年新たに《谷のサウナ》がオープンした。

オーナーの植本さんの知人で、サウナの本場フィンランドで勉強された方に作り方を聞き、職人さんの手作りでサウナを建てた。

Starting last year, Shimonoro Permanent opened their new “Sauna of the Valley”, bringing it ever closer to a fabled “Utopia”.

Inspired by her friend who studied in Finland, a place renowned for their saunas, Ms. Uemoto hired a local craftsman to build a one of these Scandinavian delights for everyone to enjoy.

本場フィンランドさながらの本物感を味わえると、サウナー達のとっておきの場所として注目され始めている。

Recently, there has been a bit of a sauna boom in Japan, with people seeking out the authenticity of Finland and the deep heated feelings these places create.
「最初の頃は薪ストーブで熱した石にお湯をかけて蒸気を作っていましたが、温度が下がらないように何度もお湯をかける手間が大変でした。いろいろ思考錯誤する中、薪ストーブでお湯を沸かして、その中にこの場所で生えているハーブを入れてみることにしたんです。そしたら、ぐつぐつに煮えたハーブがとてもいい香りに広がって、シモノロパーマネントオリジナルの薬草スチームサウナが生まれました」

“When we first began, we used to make steam by pouring hot water onto stones that were heated with a wood stove, but it was a burden to repeatedly pour the hot water over and over again in order to prevent the air temperature from dropping. So instead, we decided to boil the water in a pot on top of the stove, and then add in some of herbs from our garden. As such, the simmering herbs create a wonderful aroma, and the original medicinal steam sauna of Shimonoro Permanent was born.”

スチームサウナなので肌が乾かない点や、ハーブの香りも一緒に堪能できることが女性のゲストにも大変好評だそう。
